A361 Chipping Warden Relief Road 2 September 2019
Construction of a new single two-lane road to replace the existing A361 through the village of Chipping Warden. The new road will diverge from the existing A361 Banbury Road adjacent to Allens Orchard and rejoin it north of the village close to the eastern perimeter of the former airfield.
The relief road will be constructed as part of the preparatory works for the HS2 rail line, which will pass just to the north of the village. One function of the new road will be to keep heavy construction traffic for HS2 out of the village.
A52 Grantham Southern Relief Road 9 June 2019
Construction of a new road around the southern edge of Grantham, from a new interchange on the A1 to the existing A52/B1176/B6403 roundabout near High Dyke. The new road will be a mix of single two-lane and dual two-lane road, with three intermediate roundabouts in addition to those at each end.
The road is split into three phases:
A606 Melton Mowbray Distributor Road 2 August 2018
Construction of a new single two-lane road around the north and east sides of Melton Mowbray to carry the A606 around the outside of the town.
The new road will run from the A606 Nottingham Road, near the junction of St Bartholomew's Way, to the north of Melton Country Park and south-west of Twinlakes Park, and end on the A606 Burton Road just north of Burton Lazars.
A45 Daventry Development Link Road 24 June 2018
Construction of a new single two-lane road to carry the A45 on a new alignment past the villages of Weedon Bec, Flore and Upper Heyford, and improving the connections between Daventry and the M1 at junction 16. The new road will connect to the existing A45 at new roundabouts, and a third intermediate roundabout is provided where the road crosses the A5.
East Midlands Gateway 16 June 2017
Various changes to the road network around M1 junctions 24 and 24A to provide additional capacity to support the East Midlands Gateway project, a 700-acre logistics development. The new development will include a dedicated rail terminal and are located immediately adjacent to East Midlands Airport, and will have direct access to the trunk road network with a new junction on the A453.
The two main road works will be improvements to M1 junction 24A and the construction of a new A6 Kegworth Bypass.
A13 and M25 J30 Congestion Relief Scheme 23 May 2017
The aims of the scheme are to increase capacity and reduce congestion on a busy section of the A13 between M25 J30 and the A126 Lakeside access. Improvement of the transport infrastructure in this area is seen as critical to the further development of the Lakeside Basin and Thames Gateway.
Exact details are still to be finalised, but the scheme is likely to include improvements to M25 J30 and widening of the A13. The restricted access junction of the A13 and A126 (Lakeside) may also be targeted.
The start of development work was announced on 08 May 2012.
A505 Dunstable Northern Bypass 16 May 2017
Construction of a new dual two lane road from the current terminus of the A505 north of Dunstable to a new junction 11a on the M1, with a connection to the planned A505 Luton Northern Bypass. Construction began in February 2015, with an estimated completion date of June 2017 at the latest, subject to successful bridge lifts and good weather.
The scheme is also known as the A5-M1 Link. On opening, it took the number A5, with the former A5 through Dunstable being downgraded.
A428 Black Cat - Caxton Gibbet 21 March 2017
Upgrade of the existing A428 to dual two-lane expressway standard between the A1 at Black Cat Roundabout and the A1198 at Caxton Gibbet. This will complete a continuous expressway route between the M1 near Milton Keynes and Cambridge, and contribute to completion of the proposed Oxford-Cambridge expressway.
A142 Ely Southern Bypass 13 January 2017
Single, two-lane carriageway route avoiding the frequently-struck low bridge near Ely station, one of the lowest bridges on an A road anywhere in the UK, with a maximum headroom of only 9ft (2.7 m).
Drivers of high vehicles are currently obliged to take an alternative route along Station Road, but the level crossing over which they must pass is closed for more than 30 minutes per hour on average at peak times, resulting in long queues and delays.
A505 Luton Northern Bypass 8 July 2016
Construction of a new route north of Luton to connect the M1 and the A6. The route will be an eastward continuation of the planned A505 Dunstable Northern Bypass, connecting to the M1 at a new junction 11a.
At present, Luton Borough Council are establishing whether a bypass is required, and a feasibility study and consultation are being carried out.
M1 J10A Improvement 6 November 2015
The aims of the scheme are to increase capacity and reduce congestion.
The scheme involves upgrading M1 J10a to allow traffic to flow freely between the M1 Spur and the A1081 Airport Way. The M1 Spur will be widened to three lanes each way, as will the section of the A1081 between J10a and the Capability Green junction, with a lane drop to two lanes each way running through the improved junction.
A 50mph speed limit will apply to the whole of the improved section when the works are complete.
A10 Foxton Railway Crossing 15 September 2015
Replacement of the existing level crossing with a bridge or underpass across the railway (approximately 100m further west), with the existing level crossing being closed to traffic (except for pedestrian access).
This is a venerable project, appearing in the 1954 Cambridge County Development Plan, and probably even earlier.
A12 J28 Colchester Link 10 April 2015
Construction of a new junction on the A12 to link to a development area to the north of Colchester. The junction will be a dumbbell type, with a 1km link road connecting it to the A134 (this, the final stage of the Northern Approaches Road, will open in 2012), Park and Ride facilities, a new BP service station (to replace the existing one nearby) and the new Colchester United football ground.
