Construction of a new dual two lane road from the current terminus of the A505 north of Dunstable to a new junction 11a on the M1, with a connection to the planned A505 Luton Northern Bypass. Construction began in February 2015, with an estimated completion date of June 2017 at the latest, subject to successful bridge lifts and good weather.
The scheme is also known as the A5-M1 Link. On opening, it took the number A5, with the former A5 through Dunstable being downgraded.

Draft Orders were published today, according to the Highways Agency.
The draft orders and detailed plans for the scheme have now been published by the Highways Agency.
The public enquiry has been postponed pending a financial review in the autumn.
Following the autumn spending review, the DfT has decided to continue preparatory work on this scheme, with a view to starting construction after 2015.
Construction may now start in 2014, after the Department of Transport confirmed the securing of Â£45m of private investment, to add to the Â£5m pledged by Central Bedfordshire Council. The public enquiry is now expected to start in early 2012.
A local pre-enquiry meeting will take place on 13 December 2011.

As stated on the Highways Agency website, this scheme will begin construction this winter, site clearance and utility works have begun already.
Public exhibitions are taking place on March 13 and 14, and main construction work will start on 17 March 2015, according to the Highways Agency website.
Two bridges over the M1 near Dunstable will be demolished in September according to the Highways England website.
Demolition of a bridge over M1 motorway took place overnight 10th-11th Semptember. The second bridge removal is planned for 24th-25th September.
The new A5-M1 link road and its junction with the M1 were opened on 11 May 2017.
