A45 Daventry Development Link Road

Scheme outline

Construction of a new single two-lane road to carry the A45 on a new alignment past the villages of Weedon Bec, Flore and Upper Heyford, and improving the connections between Daventry and the M1 at junction 16. The new road will connect to the existing A45 at new roundabouts, and a third intermediate roundabout is provided where the road crosses the A5.

As well as relieving three villages of heavy traffic, and eliminating the busy signalised crossroads where the A5 and A45 presently meet, the road is also intended to promote development and attract outside investment in the Daventry area.

While the new road is being built as a single carriageway, Northamptonshire County Council claim it has been designed so that it could be upgraded to dual carriageway in future without difficulty. Bridges across the new road appear to have wide spans that could accommodate a second carriageway in future, though bridges carrying the new road are only wide enough for its initial formation.
